I Got It From My Mama

Me: dress - Zara kids, shoes - Orla Kiely, bag - vintage

Yazza: dress - Zara, shoes - Carvela, bag - Mulberry

I'm such a Mammy's girl. I always have been for as long as I can remember and I always will be. She's my best friend and I am the definition of 'my mothers daughter' - we're so alike. Aside from looking very similar, we have similar mannerisms, similar likes, dislikes, thoughts, hands (lol, they're like clones), were both soft as muck, very particular, love a lie in and love getting straight into our dressing gowns the minute we step foot through the door...

Having been a single mama with three kids for over a third of my life (my parents split when I was about seven) super Yaz has always been a strong, independent influence in our (my brother and sister) lives. She also happens to be the most loving person I've ever known. Like I know almost every mother loves their children unconditionally but mine is on a different page. She cares far too much, about everything, like if your feet are cold and she can't find you a pair of radiatored fleece socks she's on knitting some before popping them in the microwave... ok slight exaggeration but she would literally do anything for us, for anyone in fact. Yes, I'm biased, but I can confirm that everybody loves Yazza. You can't not.

(I wear the above dungarees now!)

I'd also like to take this opportunity to, importantly, thank her for all the #styleinspo - I mean, OOC perm aside, some of her get-ups back in the day are literally my go-to's now. As discussed in a previous post I did on the Yazza archives (here) I have a fair few of her vintage pieces in my wardrobe including my most favourite pair of espadrilles ever that she got when she was seventeen! They may be falling apart but I'll never let them go. Don't worry espadrilles, I'm no Rose Dawson... We also have similar tastes now and although we live at opposite ends of the country we love a bit of sharesies and quite often will have been eyeing up the same frilly/ ruffley/ embroidered delights on the high street.

(Those boiler suits are everything! Bottom right hair do, not so much...)

I know how lucky I am to have been brought up by such an amazing woman and I have the utmost love and respect for her. I can honestly say I don't know what I would do without Yazza in my life. If I can be even half as good a mother as she is one day I'll be happy (also if I could look as good as she does at fifty seven, I know, she has no wrinkles, how?! I'm sure Elliott would be ecstatic). She means the world to me. So today, and every day, thanks for everything Mamabear - I love you to the moon and back.

Happy Mama's day to all the amazing Mothers out there.

Rachael
